[EDIT: Business has called me away to Vancouver, BC. I don't believe anyone else has taken the helm of arranging a meeting place for the singalong... so I suppose it's canceled unless you've arranged something on your own. Sorry, kids.]
(This is
rwx's idea originally, but this is our east coast version.)
February 20th will yield a total eclipse of the moon, starting at 10:01pm eastern time.
I would like to gather a group of people in a public outdoor place to sing "Total Eclipse of the Heart." I will supply the boombox (unless you have a louder, battery-powered one) and lyric sheets. I am seeking suggestions for a public place where people cannot pelt us with shoes (or gamma rays). Dress goth! Release doves! Use Aqua-Net! Smoke a pack of unfiltered Luckies to get that Bonnie Tyler rasp!
Unlike the Seattle version of this event, I am glad to make this more of a 'flash-mob' sort of thing... just assemble, whip through the song once (maybe thrice?), take footage, giggle, and leave. I'm sure we'll be cold after a round or two of the song-- it is a 5:30 minute tune, and this is PhilaDel in February after all1.
Who's crazy enough to be in?
Come on!
Here's your inspiration:
I'm hoping
ms_violet and V will do their interpretive dance like the guy in the fuzzy speedo at the 4:00 mark.
[EDIT: It's looking like the location is gonna be the Downingtown Wegmann's parking lot. This way we get an
burningkirby and 133+, and it's possibly a little closer for
swingchickie. After we sing, we eat. :-) If y'all are opposed to this location, we can vote. Lemme know.]
